Total of 29 people killed due to a bus slipped and fell off from the flyovers in India

As reported by AFP on Monday, July 8, 2019, the level bus carrying 50 people was driving from New Delhi to Lucknow in the Uttar Pradesh region when this incident occurred on Monday, July 8, 2019 around 04.15 local time. This incident occurred at the busy Yamuna toll road in the Agra area.

The local police said that the bus slipped and hit the road divider, before falling into a large gap between the two flyovers.

The passenger bus fell from a height of more than 12 meters and ended up in a river under the flyovers.

The police said, river water that inundated the inside of the bus made it difficult to rescue the passangers.

"About 29 people were killed and 18 others were injured," said Agra district official NG Ravi Kumar at the scene.

The cause of this accident is still being investigated by local authorities. But according to local police, the bus driver was allegedly sleepy and had fallen asleep when the accident occurred.
