News24xx.com - The 2019 China Open final on Sunday afternoon will display a battle of stars as world number one and number two pairs -- all of them Indonesians -- are set to clash in the men’s doubles.
Indonesian world number one pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon will battle against compatriots, world number two pair Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan, in a bid to snatch their third China Open title.
The 2019 world champions Hendra and Ahsan, who are seniors to the 2016 and 2017 China Open men’s doubles champions, made their way to the final after beating Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen of China 22-20 21-11. Meanwhile, Kevin and Marcus defeated another Indonesian pair, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-8, 21-16 in Saturday’s semifinal.
Marcus said the final round would not be easy for them.
“[Hendra and Ahsan] have just won the World Championship. We have to be really ready because it’s not going to be easy to play against them,” Marcus said as quoted by badmintonindonesia.org.
In another final drawing, Indonesia also expects a title in the men’s singles from Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
Anthony claimed the final spot after defeating Anders Antonsen of Denmark 18-21, 21-5, 21-14 in the semifinal.
In Sunday’s final, which start at 1 p.m. local time, Anthony will face world number one Kento Momota of Japan, who beat former world number one Chen Long of China 19-21, 21-18, 21-16 the day before.
Other final matches are all-China match Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong against Wang Li Lyu and Huang Dong Ping in the mixed doubles, Spain’s Carolina Marin against Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying in the women’s singles as well as China’s Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan against Japan’s Misaki Matsumoto and Ayaka Takahashi in the women’s doubles.
State-owned TVRI will broadcast Sunday's final matches.
